Empowering Women to Rise Beyond the 9 to 5

Empowering Women to Rise Beyond the 9 to 5

It was our great pleasure to take part in the Annual Women On The Rise (WOTR) Forum & Expo, which took place over the weekend of October 18th & 19th, 2019. The central theme of the 2-day conference, now in its sixth year, focused on women entrepreneurs considering ways to branch out from their regular jobs and starting their own business.

The WOTR Beyond the 9-5 Business Conference featured experienced professionals in fields such as real estate, technology, culinary arts, fine arts, and more. The event for the first time also featured young children in a workshop called Rising Kidpreneur Lab. The highlights of WOTR are their track record working with small businesses, startups, and established brands to expand their networks, strengthen their core values, develop a strategy, and succeed in goals set.

About the Event Organizer

Women on the Rise (WOTR) is an organization powered by ambition. Founder and CEO Marsha Guerrier is a best-selling author, award-winning speaker, business analyst, and founder of the Yva Jourdan Foundation, a charitable organization. Her mission is to empower, equip, and encourage individuals in their personal and professional pursuits. Marsha’s vision for the conference looked at four pillars for business success, mindset, money, marketing, and media.

Event Production

The event took place at the Laguardia Plaza Hotel, Queens, New York City, where it was fit to accommodate the dozens and dozens of guests, keynote speakers, award nominees, sponsors, vendors, and staff. The 2-day conference was held in two adjoining halls. On Friday, the event was hosted in the smaller hall. During Saturday, the forum and expo were held in the main hall, while the smaller was taken over by the next generation of entrepreneurs.

The Laurie Paul of Adorned Ornament was the creative designer behind the event décor. She decorated the event space with dazzling, bright white draping, transparent stage fixtures, flower bouquets, and soft lighting to create a modern and elevated aesthetic.

3Ten was not only the audio-visual (AV) sponsor, but we were also a partner in delivering the AV, lighting and staging production for the event. We provided large projection and TV screens, confidence monitors, sound systems, lighting effects, presentation management systems, and AV control systems. DJ Lyte of Queens NYC provided the musical programming.

The Event Program

The first day of the event saw a series of workshops presented by expert speakers focusing on Mindset, Money, Marketing, and Media. The lineup of presenters included Marsha Guerrier discussing CEO Mindset, Financial Management, and Effective Marketing. Stephanie Jones did a “Lunch and Learn” segment. Nicole Spence educated attendees about Intellectual Property. Charmaine Copeland discussed how to create high-value landing pages. Sharon Devonish-Leid informed us about effective public relations. 3Ten’s own Rudy Brown walked us through getting started in media with a podcast. Dr.-Aikyna-Finch discussed repurposing content for revenue.

Day two of the forum and expo featured several panels and keynote presentations from small business owners, media professionals, strategists, best-selling authors, and entrepreneurial businesswomen. The expo floor had several vendors showcasing their products and services. There were handcrafted goods and jewelry, specialty cakes and drinks, profile photography, book signing, and catering.

The forum has guest speakers included 3Ten Events’ own Narisse Meggie, as well as other successful business owners. Among the panelists was Kim Weiler, founder of The Love Group non-profit, Renee Daniel Flagner, an adjunct professor and award-winning writer and Fairygodboss’ software engineer Melissa Halfon.

Ramon Ray took to the stage to share his own experiences with entrepreneurship, as the bestselling author of “Celebrity CEO.” His journey included the start of 4 businesses, 2 of which he sold to make a profit. Highlights of his presentation included self-marketing for CEOs and the importance of sharing a genuine personality with everyone.

Ramon Ray showcased his enthusiasm and charisma with the audience, leading into his presentation about marketing a brand in a way that excites others and makes a lasting impression.  His company, Smart Hustle Media, is a shining example of networking done naturally. Ramon Ray has featured many figures in the business world, such as legend Gary Vaynerchuk and Daymond John, on his website.

Vanessa A. Lindley, the CEO of Lindley Consulting Group LLC., NYS licensed real estate salesperson Yadlynd Cherubin and the CEO of the culinary business startup Jars of Delight, Dianna Rose also graced audiences with advice. There were numerous talented individuals involved during the duration of the event, all sharing their unique journeys with attendees as well as priceless wisdom.
